Two Year Olds

 

The cornerstones of this age group are socialization and potty training. By this time, children have learned the basic routine of a school day and basic social skills such as standing in line, keeping one’s own place, taking turns, sharing, and group as well as individual play.  

 

Now, the teachers work on small group cooperation through center time (playing with specific toys in small groups), simple projects and games.  Besides the regular schedule of learning times, play times, lunch and nap times, the teachers enforce regular potty breaks so that the children become more aware of this basic function.

 

Gradually, the children accomplish more “dry” time and begin to ask to go to the bathroom rather than waiting to be taken.  At the same time teachers work with alphabet and number recognition, increased verbal skills, and basic number sense
