18-24 month olds

Children at this age are “tweeners”—not babies, not really “big kids,” but they are beginning their transition into the wider world of working with other age groups and a true “school” routine. They experience the same daily class, play and nap routine as older children, but still many adaptations are made for their attentions spans and abilities.

Teachers prepare daily lesson plans in accordance with the school’s weekly themes. The children experience these themes in circle time (story, games, song) and in projects such as art or rudimentary science experiments. They may play in the school’s toy kitchen, play with dress-up boxes, or puppets as well as other toys that encourage fine and gross motor skills, imagination, and cooperation.

At this age, children experience lunch in the lunch room with other age groups and begin to drill social/school skills such as staying in line, clearing their place (sorting garbage from things we keep such as cups or plates), and working as a group.
