Infants (8 weeks - 13 months)
Each day we work with gross motor skills such as reaching for and grabbing a toy, stacking toys, rolling over, sitting up, and lifting their heads. We also encourage early verbal skills by talking to the babies using repetitive words they will need early in life (eat, more, drink). Research shows that the more infants interact verbally with adults, the better they will learn later. Daily circle time encourages interaction, builds attention span, and encourages verbal and motor skills through story, song, finger play, and rhyme.
The teachers in our in infant area provide not only the basics of daily childcare, but a loving, nurturing environment that promotes happy babies. Teachers write daily action plans for each child including specific skills being mastered, feeding notes, and special care instructions. We also make weekly lesson plans that include materials from the weekly themes being experienced by the older children. As the babies move into older class groups they have already experienced parts of a daily class cycle.
